Starting on the north side of the Meadowmill sports fields, the course runs alongside the pitches towards the sports centre and continues round the south and west perimeters of the sports fields where it joins a public footpath that connects Prestonpans Railway Station and Meadowmill Sports Centre. On turning left, the course takes in an out and back 400 metre stretch. This stretch of path is narrow and requires participants to run or walk in single file. Return towards the sports centre via the path which passes the Battle of Prestonpans monument. After completing the 2nd lap, the course turns right for a final 50 metre stretch on tarmac, to the finish.
