The course is 5000m (5K) long and starts at Grange Recreation Ground, Letchworth. The first 500m are on gravel/earth bridleway which forms part of the Greenway, a 13 mile circuit around Letchworth. This has a gentle downward gradient, but then we then turn uphill into grassy farmland with a short, sharp climb and then a much more imperceptible ascent for a 1km. Then we rejoin a gravel path where some speed can be picked up with the easier terrain and slight downward gradient. At the 2km mark we enter the recreation ground, and skirt around the edge with a smile-inducing run through a tree-lined avenue. On your first lap you'll run the length of the rec through these trees and return to the start for another lap, but on the second lap you'll emerge from the trees half-way and make for the finish line!
