The course consists of two 'there and back' segments around Hackney Marshes. From the start head north following the east edge of the main marsh for 2km to the first turn around point. Return back the way you came until you reach the East Marsh bridge that goes toward the Olympic Park. Turn left at the bridge and stay on the dirt path closest to the River Lea. At the second turn around point, return back along the dirt path to the bridge again, turning left with 300m to the finish, i.e. 100m the other side of the start. The course has spectacular views of the Olympic site and a lovely stretch following the River Lea navigation channel. It is a flat course, the vast majority of which is run on tarmac, with the start/finish section located near the edge of the car park that services Hackney Marshes centre.
